Ryan Krause, associate professor of strategy and the Robert and Edith Schumacher Junior Faculty Fellow at the TCU Neeley School of Business, is the 2020 SMS Emerging Scholar Award honoree.

Krause joins an elite list of 14 professors from Wharton, Stanford, Duke, Rice, London Business School, INSEAD, Bocconi and other prestigious global business schools since the award began in 2007.

The Emerging Scholar Award is specifically for professors who are within five to eight years of academic work from their dissertation. Krause received his PhD in Strategic Management and Organization Theory at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2013.

In just seven years he has published 17 top-tier journal papers, many as first author. His research focuses on corporate governance and strategic leadership, including CEO and board chair separation, independent director appointments and co-CEO models. His research and expertise has been covered in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Harvard Business Review and NBC National News. Directors at JPMorgan Chase cited his research in a letter to shareholders.

“Ryan's work has substantially advanced our understanding of the role, structure and process of the board of directors in large public corporations and has already received over 1,000 Google Scholar citations,” the SMS states on its website. “Ryan’s research exemplifies how strategy scholars can conduct relevant research for practitioners.”
