Overcoming a Global Challenge
Higher education institutions across the world are struggling to build and maintain diverse faculty. But the first step to overcoming these challenges is to understand them.
Research suggests these primary hurdles: A limited number of diverse candidates available in the pipeline, outdated recruitment and retention practices, myths that the desired candidates prefer the corporate world or more urban campuses, department heads who don’t prioritize diversity when hiring, and concerns that a focus on diversity will impede academic excellence or result in racism against ethnic majorities. 1
