Who better to judge a competition among college entrepreneurs than one of the most successful young entrepreneurs in New York City?
John Henry, voted to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and Ebony’s Power 100, will be the celebrity judge for TCU’s Richards Barrentine Values and Ventures® Competition on April 6, then stay to speak to the students and anyone else who wants to hear his inspiring story.
The TCU Neeley Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is bringing Henry to TCU.
Henry is a Dominican-American entrepreneur and investor. He started his first business at 18, an on-demand dry cleaning service for the Film and TV industry in New York City, with clients such as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Power” and more. He led the company through its acquisition in 2014, founding and selling his first business by the age of 21.
On the heels of that win, Henry launched Cofound Harlem, a nonprofit incubator that aims to foster a robust tech ecosystem north of 96th Street in New York City. Cofound Harlem has launched numerous high-growth companies, gaining recognition from Fast Company, TechCrunch, Business Insider and more.
He now serves as a partner at Harlem Capital, a diversity-focused early stage venture capital firm on a mission to change the face of entrepreneurship.
You may recognize him as the host of Viceland’s latest show, “Hustle,” which is executive produced by Alicia Keys and focused on helping scrappy entrepreneurs grow their business to the next level.
Henry will speak at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Brown-Lupton University Union on the TCU Campus. He also will judge TCU’s Richards Barrentine Values and Ventures® Competition, judging the finalists out of 56 universities across the United States, Canada, Scotland, Poland, Nigeria and Bangladesh who are pitching ideas for businesses that make a difference while making a profit. The TCU Neeley School of Business provides more than $100,000 in cash prizes will help make those ideas a reality.
