Supply chain technology makes it possible to take your favorite candy bar from its ingredients to the packaged product in stores, and thousands of individual car parts to a vehicle at an auto dealership to be sold. The annual TCU Supply Chain Business Tech Camp introduces high school students to the innovation and logistics of global industries and future career path opportunities.
Business Tech Camp, hosted by the Center of Supply Chain Innovation in the TCU Neeley School of Business, is an experiential learning opportunity designed for students interested in the world of supply chain, marketing and business technology.
“Through this camp, we introduce students to the importance of supply chain management and supply chain-related technologies and how they impact businesses across the globe,” said Molly Kanthack, director for the TCU Neeley Center for Supply Chain Innovation. “For many of our students, this opportunity to stay on our campus is their first exposure to learn that college and TCU are possible for their future education.”
Business Tech Camp, which is free to participants, provides a glimpse of college life with students as they stay in campus residence halls. Camp participants who choose to attend TCU and study Supply Chain Management have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship from the TCU Neeley Center for Supply Chain Innovation.
This year’s, camp leaders expanded participation to include more area high schools. The schools included, Cristo Rey Fort Worth College Prep, Central High School in Keller, John B. Alexander High School in Laredo, Founders Classical Academy of Frisco, Joshua High School, Arlington High School and Magnolia High School.
The immersive activities are a major component of Business Tech camp, with corporate tours to BNSF Railway, Gulfstream, Amazon Air, Alliance Airport, Vytalogy Wellness and TCU Athletics.
This business program fosters growth, innovation, and collaboration, while creating lasting memories and connections with one another.
For Kayito Eche, a senior at Founders Classical Academy of Frisco, said the corporate tours were one of the highlights of Business Tech Camp.
“It’s not every day you get to tour four Fortune 500 companies, and go from one business model to another seeing the nuances between them” Kayito said, adding that hearing from executives at those businesses further enhanced the tours. “Connecting to the leaders in those businesses gave us a chance to hear advice and source inspiration from their words.”
