Poets & Quants: Two Neeley Faculty Members Recognized Among 50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors

Poets & Quants announces the seventh edition of its list, naming Neeley School of Business professors Michael Sherrod in entrepreneurship and Abbie Shipp in management to the top 50 list of 2024.

Poets&Quants, a top publication renowned for its coverage of business schools, released its list of the best undergraduate professors, chosen from over 1,000 nominations across more than 40 institutions worldwide. Nominees were evaluated individually based on their research, teaching excellence, and impact on the industry.

Two Neeley School of Business professors made the Poets&Quants list of the 50 Best Undergraduate Professors for 2024.

Poets&Quants Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors

Michael Sherrod, the William M. Dickey Entrepreneur in Residence and director of TCU’s Innovate Teachers Guild at the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Abbie Shipp, the M.J. Neeley Professor of Management and a recent recipient of the 2024 Rob Rhodes Professor of the Year award, were recognized as standout honorees.

Both professors have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their students and the broader business community.

Sherrod has been a faculty member at the Neeley School of Business since 2011, and teaches courses in corporate entrepreneurship and raising entrepreneurial capital. As an entrepreneur who started 19 companies - 6 inside major corporations - Sherrod provides students with practical industry insights, making his lessons highly relevant to those pursuing careers in entrepreneurship and leadership. 

“Michael was not only extremely helpful as my professor but he has continued to help mentor me over five years after my graduation,” said Conner Walden ’19, an entrepreneurial management graduate who appreciates Sherrod’s unwavering dedication and commitment to his professional growth. 

Sherrod also leads the Innovative Teachers Guild, a cross-campus initiative that fosters entrepreneurial thinking and experiential learning. This program helps non-business faculty incorporate entrepreneurial thinking and experiential learning within the context of their own disciplines, providing skills to empower their students to become adaptable, creative, and fulfilled.

Shipp is one of 19 women recognized on this prestigious list. Shipp’s research, which focuses on the psychological experiences influencing how individuals view the past, present, and future in the workplace, has been published in both academic and practitioner outlets. As an award-winning professor, she inspires her students to problem solve and engage in impactful research.

“I have never had a class that pushed me out of my comfort zone more than Dr. Shipp’s due to her extraordinary ways of understanding the different ways students think,” said Reese Elliott, a student majoring in entrepreneurship an innovation. 

Driven by the inspiration of her own professors, Shipp forges personal connections with her students, consistently innovates in the classroom, and maintains strong industry ties through real-world projects that enhance her teaching and research.

Both professors share a commitment to fostering students' curiosity and empowering them to make a meaningful impact in the world. Their shared passion for hands-on learning – a hallmark of the overall Neeley student experience - creates a strong bridge between research and practice, allowing students to thrive. Sherrod and Shipp provide engaging initiatives and mentorship, which are pivotal in earning this national recognition for their dedication and outcomes.
